Imported SVGs are deformed by FontForge
I’m out of practice, but here’s two thoughts of mine:
1. The setting you’re looking for is "EM square" or "EM size". I think
putting 2048 there should be enough and at the same time it’s not so high
that it makes editing using the cursor keys cumbersome.
2. I think this list doesn’t allow attachments; the only way to show images
would then be to put them somewhere online and include a link to them in
your message.

designing wrt the borders
If you have a standard kind of font, you’ll probably want text blocks to
have a straight left margin.
Which means that most glyphs can be almost flush to the left side of the
width (bounding box) – but:
The word "straight" I used there is of course a subjective optical
impression, so you’ll have to adapt the glyphs’ positioning to their
shapes:
A letter H will be placed differently from an O, and a T will be positioned
slightly differently again.

I saw the attached images, but evidently they were stripped from your
digest.
