[fontforge-users] Export Anti-Aliased Font as Bitmap

Hello,

I'm trying to use fontforge for something that it probably wasn't
intended for, but I'd nevertheless like to know whether this is possible
(and if so, how) or not:

I find OSX (terminal) text anti-aliasing to be terrible, especially when
it comes to bright text on dark background. I know there are some knobs
to tune the amount of anti-aliasing performed by OSX but the results are
all really terrible. What I was wondering was whether it's possible to
use fontforge to create a bitmap font of a font that was anti-aliased by
X.

Thanks,
Johannes

The usual bitmap font formats do not support anti-aliasing. That means
you can create a bitmap font with Fontforge, but it will have ragged
outlines and no anti-aliasing.

The only font format I can think of that supports bitmaps with
anti-aliasing is Postscript Type 3, but I do not think such fonts can
be used in the MacOS terminal.

Kind regards,
Josh
